Religion:
freedom of religion. The traditional religion in the Republic of Bulgaria is Eastern Orthodox Christianity
State Government:
parliamentary republic with a one-chamber parliament (National Assembly) constituted of 240 members (people’s representatives) with a four-year term. The central body of the executive authority is the Council of Ministers.
Landscape:
very diverse. Average altitude – 470 metres. Out of the country’s territory 31.5 % are lowlands, 41 % are plains and hilly lands, 27.5 % are mountains.
Climate:
temperate continental with Black Sea impact from the east and Mediterranean impact from the south.
Waters:
rivers (main rivers, the Danube, the Maritsa, the Mesta, the Strouma, the Iskar, the Yantra); hot and cold mineral springs (600 plus); seashore lakes (some of them having healing mineral mug) and glacial lakes (in the Rila and Pirin Mountains).
Forests:
mixed deciduous and coniferous forests.
Fauna
circa 15 000 animal species.
Over 2 200 natural sites are placed under the provisions of the Protected Territories Act. It also covers over 350 vegetal species and over 470 animal species, over 100 areas etc.
